Gregory Shane Hammett, 35, of Sharpsburg Charged with DUI and Vehicular Homicide in Deadly Accident.

Georgia State Patrol releases incident report on fatal DUI accident.

On August 24th at 8:45 PM, according to the initial report released by the Georgia State Patrol, Hammett was traveling south on Hwy 29 N in an F250 truck when he crossed the center line making contact with the front of a Chevy Malibu driven by Robin Slaton, 64, of Union City.
 
Once his truck made contact with the car, it pushed both vehicles south on Hwy 29 N before leaving the roadway and coming to a rest with the F250 on top of the Malibu.
 
Hammett was transported via Life Flight to Grady Memorial Hospital.
 
Mrs. Slaton, tragically, was trapped in her vehicle and passed away from her injuries before she could be extricated.
 
 
The GSP Specialized Crash Reconstruction Team (SCRT) is still working on its investigation of the accident.
 
The Georgia State Patrol has charged Hammett with the following charges.
 
  • Failure to Maintain Lane
  • Reckless Driving
  • Driving under the Influence
  • Homicide by Vehicle
  • Possession of Marijuana Less than 1 oz
  • Purchase, possession, manufacture, distribution, or sale of controlled substances or marijuana
  • Purchase, possession, manufacture, distribution, or sale of controlled substances or marijuana
 
Hammett has not been booked due to his medical condition.
